Booster Wheel Gives More Money

A few days ago, the wonderful admin (Squigglee) at Moola.com told us of an upcoming enhancment to the wheel. The upgrade will increase the minimum booster amount on the wheel based on your position on the tower. The higher you are on the tower, the more money you make from the wheel.

I personally think this is a great upgrade for both Moola.com and it's members. For us members, the benefit is obvious, we have the opportunity to make more money. For Moola.com, the benefit of this new feature is that it will keep it's members from cashing out so often or so much. Thus, Moola will be able to keep more of the money it has earned (at least until members reach a point they are willing to cash out again).

Actually now that I think of it, the amount of money you would get for keeping your balance on Moola.com does not justify the new minimum boosters. But I guess any increase is a good increase.

Edit: Two commenter's pointed out a few facts that I missed when looking over this new addition.

1. Those below $5.12 will have their minimum spins reduced to one cent
2. A majority of the members are probably below the $5 mark (no evidence to back this up)
3. The lowering to $0.01 actually means that Moola is actually finding a way to give less money away.

I apologize for missing this point since when looking it over. I looked right at the bonus I would receive with my current balance.

You can read Squigglee's entire post below (I edited the post to include a table instead of just text):

Moola is in the process of developing a new *trial* feature which will give you bigger Search and Win rewards as you climb higher up the Moola Tower. The higher your level, the more you will be eligible to win on the Booster Wheel. We hope to implement this new feature in testing mode next week so feel free to post your feedback!

Here's how it will work:
--------------------
Each level of the Tower will be eligible to receive a minimum amount on the Booster Wheel. Currently, everyone's minimum booster amount is 2 cents. Moola's new Search and Win boosters will change this minimum amount depending on your level (ie. If you have 8 cents in your account, you are on Level 3).

Your Level (account balance range)Your Minimum Booster*
Up to Level 8 ($0 - $5.11)$0.01
Level 9 ($5.12 - $10.23)$0.02
Level 10 ($10.24 - $20.47)$0.03
Level 11 ($20.48 - $40.95)$0.04
Level 12 ($40.96 - $81.91)$0.05
Level 13 ($81.92 - $163.83)$0.06
Level 14 ($163.84 - $327.67)$0.07
Level 15 ($327.68 - $656.35)$0.08
Level 16 ($656.36 - $1310.71)$0.09
Level 17 ($1310.72 - $2621.43)$0.10
Level 18 and above (>$2621.44)$0.25

... more levels may be added and these amounts are subject to change (since this is still a trial feature). In the meantime, feedback welcome!

* The minimum booster is the lowest amount you can possibly win using Search and Win. You will still be eligible to win all amounts greater than this amount, but any amount lower than the minimum won't be shown on the wheel.

Instead of risking your entire balance on one big game, or cashing out your entire balance, make sure to leave enough in your account so that you can earn more using Search and Win!

Note: Moola plans to continue adding benefits for those who maintain their account balances -- so there are even more reasons to climb higher up the Tower!

This is quite obvious that the wheel will now provide less money. What percentage of spins are by players at the new 1c level compared to the higher levels?

It's fine if they want to restructure it to reward people higher on the ladder at the expense of the majority, but to try to sell it as an "increase" is a little condescending.

What you failed to mention is that for the majority of people the minimum booster will decrease to 1 cent. Most people have less than the required 5.12 balance to maintain the current 2 cent minimum level.

You're also forgetting to mention that it is quite simple to get over $5 by using the booster zone. There's a few free boosters that I used to get that far. Then, once you get to $5 just don't go below that and you still get .02 but you have to play games, the .01 extra isn't gonna make anyone any money!

@ bill stickers: Moola never claimed the change represented an "increase.

I have recently been looking more into the booster wheel. Turns out that is does indeed seem to be rigged. I had a very detailed look at all the java script and even decompiled the flash object for the wheel. It is also true that what you will get is already determined. Further, it is rigged to provide only low amounts. It is basically on a timer and the numbers are arranged such that the lower amounts fall on the area where the wheel commonly times out. Here is how it works:

function mooSearch(){
var canSpin = true;
var spinData = "targetIndex=some#&highestIndex=some#
,&lowestIndex=&newLevel=currentlevel!
&username=yourusernamehere
&valueList=25¢,2¢,5¢,10¢,50¢
,$1,5¢,25¢,$100,$5,50¢,10¢,2¢
,$1,$10,$9000,";
search(canSpin, spinData);

All they are going to do is change the lowest win value to the new value for the upgrade. This value will probably be retrieved from your user data using java script and/or cookies.

As you see above, they already place your level data in the script. Now just take that data, add a script to determine the "minimum" based on your level, plug the result into the current script, and presto, more rigging.

To change the odds of getting a high amount the numbers must be rearranged on the wheel by modifying "value" portion of the above "spindata" tag. Also the min and max numbers should be changes to reflect the time out requirements.

If you want to see something interesting, goto:

/boosterWheel.swf

You should spin the wheel when it comes up and see what it does. It wont time out, because no data has been passed to it for rigging purposes.

Even knowing this, I'm still going to keep playing though.

As always, good luck.
