God Leaves Moola.com

Pavel Simakov the CTO of Moola.com has decided to leave the company. He spent 4 years as Chief Architect and one of his projects was to create the website we now know as Moola.com. He writes post in his blog about what he has done for Moola.com but not much related to why he is leaving.

What actually intrigued me is that the admin known as " God" is actually Simakov. I personally always wondered who he was and it is actually amusing to be able to put a face to the name. " God"

Note that all the information provided is entirely based on the blog entry on his site. Is he really " God"... I don't know.

Thanks for the anonymous comment leading to Pavel's blog.

Moola Update Jan 23rd

Last night the admins released a few changes to the site. Here is a compiled list of changes that most of us have noticed so far. The admins do not have a complete list available for it's members so all the information below are things mentioned on the forums. I will update this if there are new features added.

Booster Wheel Updates:
1. The wheel tells you what you won before you spin
2. The new Booster Wheel payment increase discussed in a previous post has been released.

Booster Bar updates:
1. Behind the scene updates
2. Reorganization of Menus
3. Faster balance updates
4. Uses less browser memory

Forum Updates:
1. Give Moola Button added to every post (see warning below)

Game Updates:
1. New description of games and player limits (hint that there may be multiplayer games in the future)
2. Gold Rush Lite added (accessible via a link at the bottom of a Gold Rush game)

Referral Updates:
1. Referral bonus messages will now identify who the bonus originated from

Other Features:
1. Give Moola allows for anonymous transactions as well as the ability to deliver a message with the transaction.
2. Clicking a ad will not affect your game now
3. The after game report now shows who you last played (it does not unveil anonymous players)

Warning!! There is a bug that will be fixed in the next update regarding the "Give Moola" feature:

If you choose to send the person a message and do NOT choose to be anonymous, your email address will be displayed in the sender field of the message. If you choose to be anonymous, the message will be sent from Moola.

Paypal Cash Outs

After a reading through a large amount of posts requesting Paypal as a form of cashing out and a few months of hearing the admins tell us that the feature is coming. It has FINALLY been added to the cashout system!

PayPal Is Here! This is great news... why? Because this will mean that members will not have to complain about banks charging a fee for cashing in a foreign check. But more importantly, this MIGHT mean that we will get our money faster. This definitely means we don't have to stare at the mailbox waiting for a check.

However, there are two catches.
1. You need to cash out once via a check to have the Paypal option activated. This will allow Moola's security team to go through their process first.

2. Your Paypal account needs to be a verified account.

In my opinion, these are reasonable requests. Moola, Thanks for listening to your members requests.

Internal Lawsuit

I found out that VentureBeat.com wrote an article about Moola yesterday (and Moola Addict was linked in that article, yippppeee!). The article mentions that the "company is a little rocky right now, suffering from a nasty lawsuit between the co-founders".

Unfortunately, we’ve just learned there’s a nasty law suit going on between Moola’s founders. Founder Jason White is being paid not to come to work, while the lawyers fight it out.
I posted this information on the forum today, but the mods took it down because they did not want it publicized on the forums, so on my blog it goes.

Update: Message from Grant (one of the main admins of the site about this topic "the "lawsuit" has been over for almost a year, it's actually quite old news -- and you can judge for yourself from Moola's growth what happens in this situation. Even though legal issues are not so unusual (given that every company deals with legal issues all the time), I can understand why people might be curious about the situation last year. So, for anyone who's curious, after the launch activities, Admin will prepare an update about what happened in 2006..."

Out of [private] Beta

I thought that Moola changing the front page and adding a booster bar was surprising, but boy was I wrong. What is even more surprising is that Moola is coming out of beta!

Toronto, Canada-based Moola has been operating an invite-only beta for a little over 18 months and will on Friday open their site to the public (they'll be officially launching at the TechCrunch Meetup in Boston).
Congratulations to everyone involved in the process.

As for new games, this excerpt from the article sounds very exciting:
Moola is in the planning stages of an API that would allow third-party developers to add games to Moola. They're currently in talks with two unnamed developers to create additional content prior to the release of a public API. (And they are soliciting queries from other interested game developers at gamedev@moola.com.)

Moola developers would be able to make money from both the advertising on the games, as well as take a cut of the money that changes hands between players. Ritchie also told me that the plan is to allow developers to "Moola-ize" their games outside of the site. So, for example, Microsoft could add Moola functionality to Halo 3 on XBox Live and then Moola members could organize Halo matches and play each other for cash.

Moola Update Nov. 16th

Surprise surprise, Moola.com got an update today. The first obvious update is the front page. The new front page now sports:

- a live update of how much money has exchanged hands
- a link to the Moola.com tutorial
- a live update of recent cash outs
- a link to member submitted video

The second addition that I found is the BoosterBar (found in the booster zone section). I have no idea how it works since I have not installed it, but to my knowledge:

- It detects when you are on a site that supports boosters
- It finds similar sites that will provide you with a booster
- It automatically logs you into Moola.com
- It also has a new wheel associated it

I will post more as soon as I learn something new. Sadly, no new games or updates that people have been wishing for, but it will come.
